Steve Balet is a Managing Director of Strategic Governance Advisors.

Steve advises Boards of Directors and corporate leaders on a range of ESG issues important to shareholders. His experience advising public companies and hedge funds on transactions, proxy contests, shareholder proposals and other corporate governance matters spans more than two decades.

Over the last decade Steve has advised on a number of the largest contested M&A situations including but not limited to Bristol-Myers Squibb Company merger with Celgene Corporation, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited acquisition of Shire plc, Monsanto Company’s defense against Bayer AG, Perrigo Company plc’s defense against Mylan N.V., and Shire’s defense against AbbVie Inc. Mr. Balet has also advised numerous companies facing shareholder activism, including Dollar Tree, Inc., Perrigo Company, E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Transocean Ltd, Koninklijke DSM N.V., and Corpbanca.

Steve has also consulted with and developed activism preparedness plans for many S&P 500 Companies as well as counseling many companies on a host of ESG issues. He also has extensive experience working with issuers on engaging with third party advisory groups such as ISS, and developing the most effective message to deliver the vote. Steve was formerly a Managing Director and Head of Corporate Governance and Activist Engagement at FTI Consulting. Prior to his tenure with FTI, Steve held roles senior leadership roles at SCB Advising, Okapi Partners and MacKenzie Partners, including three years as head of MacKenzie’s London Office.
