Juan advises public companies on matters of shareholder activism, contested mergers, executive compensation, and institutional investor engagement.

He provided analysis and voting recommendations on more than 1,000 shareholder meetings, including >100 proxy contests and economic proposals, as a Vice President of the ISS Research team. He has since built a career advising boards and management teams on successfully navigating shareholder activism and consequential shareholder votes, including by founding the Shareholder Advisory & Activism Defense practice at Stifel, a full-service investment bank, as well as its subsidiary Keefe Bruyette & Woods, which specializes in the financial services sector.

Prior to joining SGA, Juan advised numerous clients facing activist campaigns for board seats including DuPont de Nemours in its defense against Trian Partners, Texas Pacific Land Trust in its defense against Horizon Kinetics and Softvest Advisors, HomeStreet Bank in its defense against Roaring Blue Lion Capital, Innerworkings in its defense against Engaged Capital, Yahoo in its defense against Starboard Value, Codorus Valley Bancorp in its defense against Driver Management, and Broadwind in its defense against WM Argyle Fund. He has also advised on contested M&A transactions including Towers Watson in its merger defense against Driehaus Capital and Axiall in its defense against a hostile bid from Westlake Chemical.

He is a CFA charterholder and was named a Rising Star Dealmaker by the Global M&A Network as well as an Emerging Leader by M&A Advisor. He holds an MBA from Georgetown University, where he was the valedictorian of his class, and a B.A. from Princeton University.
